spaced out | Combining space-themed patches with a space-related good cause, I've been working on a fundraising patch for the Taking Up Space charitable organization that sends Native American coding girls to Space Camp. This 4" fully-embroidered patch based on the original insignia design by Brian Matney is executed in an exceptional 15 distinct colors of thread and has been manufactured by AB Emblem. I donated the entire production run to the organization and they are now being offered by the organization with all net proceeds going direct to the cause. |
spaced out | The SKU design number is 427159, and there was a intermediate pre-production design 426775. |
Kevin T. Randall | Many thanks for that information Chris. The details on the old style white rectangular labels without "A-B Emblem" and the "crown emblem" are as follows; - 427159 Made In China 10/20 01
- 427159 Made In China 11/20 01
These labels/stickers are attached to 8"x 6.5" polyurethane plastic bags that hold ten of the patches in. |
spaced out | Just a heads-up that the entire production run of these patches has sold out in less than 3 days. If you were interested in buying one but missed your chance please feel free to contact me or to contact Taking Up Space via their website. If enough people are interested it might be possible to produce another run. |
p51 | That's an excellent design. I'd offered to do this patch design a while back when I was at Space Camp, but I could never come up with a design that I liked. I always felt bad that I couldn't come up with anything that seemed to work but I'm VERY happy to see someone was found who did a great design. I really like this! |
Kevin T. Randall | AB Emblem is currently producing a second production run of 200 extra patches of these "Taking Up Space" fundraising patches. They should be available to buy via the donation website before the end of this month. |
spaced out | Thanks for the mention Kevin. Anyone interested should go to the donation page and leave their details so they can be added to the waiting list. I've been told most of the next batch are already reserved. |
Kevin T. Randall | To order a patch, they can now be found at the bottom of the Donation page. |
Kevin T. Randall | I received two of my patches today. Neither had embedded labels on them. Has anyone else received their patches without the labels on them? |
Liembo | Mine lack labels, ordered from the first batch. |
Kevin T. Randall | Today I received the remaining patches I requested in my second order. They came in their original 8" high x 6.5" wide polyurethane plastic bags. Each bag originally held twenty patches, and all have the old style white rectangular labels attached (stuck) to them. The labels are all without the "A-B Emblem" trade name, or the "crown emblem" trade marks. Originally these bags were folded along the top and secured with a strip of sellotape to seal them. All of the patches I received today have a clingfilm wrap around them. |
FFrench | A nice piece that aired today. You don't often get to see a patch featured on the TV news as much as this one does at the end of the segment.

FFrench | It's wonderful to read how generous A-B Emblem are being with this patch created for a great space cause. Space enthusiasts will know A-B Emblem as the official supplier of embroidered mission patches to NASA since the 1970s. Think of all those amazing photos of astronauts walking out to the launch pad or floating in space, and you will have seen their work. And now they are making our Taking Up Space patches in exactly the same way! When they heard about our work sending Indigenous girls to Space Camp, they offered to make a special batch of patches for us for free. We are so grateful to them, as it has really helped us with our fundraising efforts. |
